Voting rights dispute headed to mediation

The battle over district voting could be growing nearer to its conclusion. By the order of U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Batten, the sides will meet with mediator Steven J. Kaminshine in a closed session Wednesday morning in Atlanta.
According to Batten’s order, if mediation is unsuccessful, the court will hold a settlement conference in an attempt to resolve the dispute.
Should nothing be resolved, the suit is slated to go to trial before Batten next month in the dispute over district voting that dates back to 2011.
